We carry a variety of Reg Barber tampers with different handles and bases to choose from. Both the handles and bases are fully replaceable, which means you can change up the look of your espresso station with ease.
Reg Barber, the legendary Canadian-based coffee tools company, is among the best in the world for tamper quality, both in looks and performance. For more than two decades, they created new styles and methods of manufacturing these essential tools. Although Reg Barber closed its operations in late 2019, after 24 years in the business, their craftsmanship lives on. Make sure you don't miss out - while stocks last.
Wood Handles
Reg Barber tamper handles are made from a variety of luxurious woods from around the world. Each tamper can take up to four days to make before the handcrafting process is complete. The tampers are shaped and turned on a wood lathe, then hand sanded and polished for a beautiful finish. The wood handles come with a white inlaid crown to prevent damage to your equipment from contact with the side of a portafilter. Our Reg Barber wood finishes are listed below:
Bubinga: Also known as African Rosewood - a deep red African hardwood with a dark grain.
Maple: High-quality maple from Eastern Canada with a soft golden finish.
Wenge: A tropical timber with a distinctive partridge pattern. A rich brown colour with copper undertones.
Zebra: An exotic wood that grows mainly in the central part of West Africa. A Zebra finish is a cream or light brown colour distinguished by dark lines that somewhat resemble a zebra's stripes. Very striking.
Powder-coated Handles
These tampers are handcrafted with aluminum, turned on a CNC lathe. They are then coated with a dry powder applied electrostatically and cured under heat. The result is a beautiful smooth finish. Powder coating is more durable than conventional paint and looks stunning.
Our colour options for this finish are: black, red and yellow.
Anodized Steel Handles
Reg Barber chose the anodizing technique for its durability. This involves immersing the handles in a chemical bath and applying an electrical current, which causes the resulting rust on the aluminum to produce an oxide layer. This layer of oxide hardens the aluminum, increasing its resistance to corrosion.
Our colour options for this finish: red.
Each tamper base has a specific size, shape and material.
Which size to purchase depends on your portafilter. Choose a tamper size that is .5-1 mm smaller than the inner diameter of your portafilter. Many espresso machines have a standard portafilter size, making it easier to find the right tamper for you.
We offer several shapes for tamper bases; flat, curved, ripple, American curve and European curve. It is best to match the shape of your tamper to the curvature of the ‘shower’ your machine uses (ie. where on your unit the water comes out and makes contact with the grinds).
